Entries were judged by popular Children's author, Julia Jarman and adult stories by William Shaw, author of the DS Alexandra Cupidi series.

Terms & Conditions

These are the T&C’s for entering your short story into the 2024 competition:

  • Ensure that your full name and contact details are filled in.
  • Stories should be submitted in 12pt font with 1.5 or double-spaced text.
  • Put the title and page number on each page of each entry.
  • Stories must be fiction but can be of any genre.
  • Stories should be maximum 500 words for 8-15 year olds – maximum 950 words for adults.
  • Stories should be submitted without images.
  • Stories must be saved as a PDF.
  • The winner will be announced as part of the Deepings Literary Festival May 1st -5th 2024.
  • The overall winner for each category may have their story published in ‘I’d rather be in Deeping’ magazine.
  • Stories must be submitted by March 31st 2024.
