Boater is the first memoir of Jo Bell, who has spent the past 20 years living a life afloat on the waterways of England. She can usually be found on a mooring somewhere in Cheshire.
Jo Bell is an award-winning poet, writer and archaeologist whose collections include Kith and Navigation. She was the UK’s inaugural Canal Laureate and is a former director of National Poetry Day. Originally from Sheffield and raised on the edges of the Derbyshire Peak District, Boater is her first memoir.
Julia Jones at 11.30 am
Julia Jones is a writer and classic yacht owner. When Julia was not quite 3, her parents bought Arthur Ransome’s yacht Peter Duck. She found her berth on board the snuggest place for reading, writing and dreaming. Julia’s first book, The Adventures of Margery Allingham, remains enduringly popular.
Later in her life, when she bought Peter Duck back, she discovered that her reading place had been Ransome’s typewriter store. This inspired The Salt-Stained Book and her ‘Strong Winds’ adventure series.
